Calling your home from a cell phone to request a waiting warm bath, air conditioning, mood music, and a preheated oven are available options to the new home builder or remodeler.
The list of smart appliances and communication devices is growing daily. The new smart house enclosed the homeowner in an Envelope of comfort and style.
It is quite a challenge to stay abreast of the newest technology, but personally, the biggest impact of the Digital Age on my business is in my ability to present a concept of a home or interior in such vivid detail.
The computer aided designs I deliver are virtual photographs of the finished project, down to the sheen on cabinets, in inlay patterns of lime- stone floors, the subtle shading and light effects of different times of the day. even the smallest detail, accent, or trim.
Although it still takes many hours to “build” a concept on the computer, the finished product is far superior to the old line drawings or renderings of the traditional architect. These photographs are invaluable to the builder and client. There is no guesswork as to the outcome of a project.
As to the new space age building materials, I still prefer to work with the ancients, i.e. Limestone, Hardwood, Granite, and the slightly more modern Stainless Steel, Nickel, and Glass. Plastics do have their place mixed into the construction, due to their sound structural characteristics..
All in all, a Design is like a painting. Each is unique, only borrowing from established techniques, and hopefully achieving masterpiece status on its merits of souhd engineering, aesthetic beauty, and graceful “Feng Shui”.
